CHALLENGE
Tung Nam Lou was once a commercial building that the owner wanted to renovate into a hotel. Situated in Yau Ma Tei, the area was notorious for its “dodginess” and proximity to local brothels and with limited space and budget, it is hugely difficult to convert an old commercial building into a classy hotel. Not to mention the traditional definition of 5-star hotels are with gyms and various amenities and services, it makes it even harder to step into the high-end hospitality scope. There were also difficulties around hiring that employees tend to work in established 5-star hotels with obvious reasons.
WHAT WE DID
Within the 4-year project, Road Creation was involved in the entire project from start to finish: development and construction of the hotel- from modeling, concept development, building tender, construction management, operation flow set up, staff training, and service delivery, etc. The term “5-star" hotel is re-defined into something more unique and memorable- with therapeutic art spaces and multi-sensory experience- that makes Tung Nam Lou stand out from the conventional upper-tier hotel experience.
The team has also made an effort on human resources, meaning the hiring and enablement of the employees. Through team building and training, we have successfully made our staff experience the beauty of Tung Nam Lou first-hand, and appreciate the hidden gems of the area. With that approach, they can deliver the best services wholeheartedly with a genuine passion in the business. It has also re-educated one to explore and reveal the beauty of the historical district, which granted the entire project a spiritual transformation as well.
With all the effort, Tung Nam Lou is now ranked as the Best 10 hotels in Hong Kong among various platforms, whose level of service and experience is comparable to traditional hotels like Mandarin Oriental hotel. Tung Nam Lou also receives countless positive media coverage and becomes the top picks for Hollywood stars and local celebrities.
